Producer

I spent ten years at WGBH, the PBS station in Boston. I was Senior Producer for a series teaching kids about science and nature, based on NOVA science documentaries. We explored animal behavior, human anatomy, and biodiversity, bringing many fascinating science stories to life. I love the challenge of directing an interview during a shoot and asking the right follow-up questions on behalf of my future audience.

Some of the topics I’ve had the joy to research are butterfly migration, loggerhead sea turtles, and red knot shorebirds. I also produced historical mini-documentaries in collaboration with the PBS series Chronoscope, and shows about architecture, medicine, ecology, and innovation. I’ll always remember an early morning spent filming the first test flight for a human-powered aircraft called Daedalus, which was preparing to fly from Crete to the Island of Santorini in Greece. I produced the Interactive NOVA educational version of The Miracle of Life, documenting a child’s journey from conception to childbirth as seen through Lennart Nilsson’s spectacular photography.

Another series of films I’ve produced are about children who had someone in their family die – either their mom or dad, or a brother or sister. Since 2008, I have worked with Reflection Films in Boston to help illuminate the experiences of grieving children and teens. I am currently producing another film for The Children’s Room (TCR), the leading center in Massachusetts for grieving families. As a trained grief facilitator and the former TCR Director of Communications, I have a deep understanding and respect for the challenges faced by grieving children.

Here’s a short film I produced about hope for grieving children.
